In the run-up to the 17th United Nations climate change summit in Durban, South Africa in 2011, a group of leading musicians throughout Africa and other parts of the world united to create a song that both tells the truth about how hard climate change is affecting Africa and that also inspires people to join together to create a brighter future for everyone. The song that was created was used as an organizing tool to get people talking and thinking about climate change using radio – the most common form of public communication in Africa. Volunteer organizers all over the continent, and the world, worked to get the song on the radio and to use it as a platform to speak about local climate issues. Others were invited to “remix” the song, leading to a number of exciting and diverse versions of the same song.
